Encyclopedia
Josh Abbott Band is an American Texas Country
band from the state of Texas
. It is composed of Josh Abbott (vocals, guitar), Preston Wait (fiddle, guitar), Edward Villanueva (drums), James Hertless (bass) and Caleb Keeter (guitar).
Josh Abbott founded the band in the 2000s in Lubbock, Texas
while attending Texas Tech University
. He quit college, a thesis away from his Masters degree, to pursue a musical career full time, and founded the band with Preston Wait, guitarist Jedd Hughes
and former Ricochet
member Heath Wright. After Hughes and Wright dropped out, they were replaced with the band's current lineup. After signing with Bruce Kalmick and Ambiance Artists Management Group in December 2008, the wheels started turning fast for one of Texas Music's quickest risers. With the assistance of former Sons of the Desert
lead singer Drew Womack, the band recorded an album titled Scapegoat in 2009.
A second album, She's Like Texas, followed in 2010. This album has made the Top Country Albums charts. Michael Berick of Allmusic rated it four stars out of five, comparing it to Steve Earle
and saying that Abbott's songwriting showed "maturity".
It includes the single "Oh, Tonight", which debuted at number 59 and peaked at 44 on the Hot Country Songs
charts in early 2011. The song is a duet with Nashville Star
season 5 finalist and Universal Music recording artist Kacey Musgraves.
