Life

After the death of his elder brother Joseph Charles, John Christian Joseph became the eventual designated heir of the Electoral Palatinate. In 1732 he succeeded his father as Count Palatine of Sulzbach, but died in Sulzbach in 1733 before inheriting the Palatinate.

In 1731 he remarried to his cousin Eleonore Philippina Christina Sophia of Hesse-Rotenburg but the marriage remained childless.

John Christian Joseph married Maria Anne Henriette de la Tour (24 October 1708 - 28 July 1728), daughter of Francois Egon de la Tour d'Auvergne, Prince of Auvergne, and had the following children:
  1. Charles Theodore (11 December 1724 - 16 February 1799)
  2. Maria Anne (30 May 1728 - 25 June 1728)
