His son, Johan Ludwig Mowinckel Jr., was well-known Norwegian conductor. He was Mayor Of Bergen from 1902 to 1906 and 1911 1913 where he represented Bergen Venstre.
He formed his first government in 1924 when the government Berge did not manage to dissolve the alcohol-ban.
