"Showdown Joe" Ferraro is a mixed martial arts
analyst for Canadian
sports channel Rogers Sportsnet
and is the host of The Showdown on Toronto
's sports radio station The Fan 590.
Showdown Joe covers the UFC and many other MMA organizations providing breaking news and analysis of current events. He also writes columns and blogs for Sportsnet, The Fan 590 as well as Showdown Entertainment, a company he founded in 2002. Since 2000, Showdown Joe has worked with various Canadian MMA organizations and has become a consultant in the areas of production, promotions, public relations, sales and marketing, fighter management, and match-making. His fight analysis and colour commentary on television, radio, pay-per-view, and DVD have made him very active in the combat sports industry.
Showdown Joe holds a grappling tournament in his hometown of Toronto, called The Toronto Showdown Grappling Open.
He was an active participant in the movement to sanction and legalize the sport in Ontario, and is a founding board member of the Canadian Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Association, as well as the Ontario Amateur Mixed Martial Arts Association.
He recently became certified as a MMA Ref under Big John McCarthy's
C.O.M.M.A.N.D. (Certification of Officials for Mixed Martial Arts Development), the only nationally recognized training and certification program backed by the A.B.C.(Associations of Boxing Commissions) for mixed martial arts referees and judges.
