Seanad Éireann
as an independent
member in December 1922 by the President of the Executive Council
. She was one of four women elected or appointed to the first Seanad in 1922. She was elected for 9 years in 1934 and served until the Seanad was abolished in 1936. She was also a shopkeeper, restaurateur and the founder of the Irish Farm Produce Company. Her husband, John Wyse Power, was one of the founder members of the GAA
