Jean-Pierre Vibert

Jean Pierre Vibert was a French rosarian.
He first was an owner of a hardware store and served in Napoleon's army. His store was close to the rosarium of André Dupont
in Chénevières-sur-Marne, where he gained interest in breeding roses. In 1813 he sold his hardware store and purchased a plant nursery where he could also dedicate his time to his new hobby.
He married Adèle Heu (? – 1816) with whom he had three daughters: Aimée, Adélaide and Théodore.
Vibert was one of the founder
s of the Société d'Horticulture de Paris (now Société Nationale d'Horticulture).
During his research he discovered the Rosa centifolia cristata (also called "Chapeau de Napoleon") on the wall of a cloister in Fribourg
, Switzerland
and, in 1827 started growing it in France. He was also the first to grow in France the Parks Yellow Tea-Scented China rose which became important for developing other French cultivar

In 1850 Jean-Pierre Vibert sold his nursery to M. Robert, who in 1867 dedicated to him the cultivar "Souvenir de Pierre Vibert".
He died on January 27, 1866, age 88.
He created several cultivars, among which were Adèle Heu named after his wife and Aimeé Vibert named after his daughter.
