Jan Kantůrek is a Czech
translator of fantasy, science fiction, comics and westerns from English. His most known translations are Discworld
by Terry Pratchett
and book about Conan the Barbarian
by R.E. Howard and his successors.
. Between 1975-1990 Kantůrek worked as a copy editor in the Artia publishing house. Since 1990 to 1992 he was a director of marketing department in Aventinum publishing house. And since 1992 he works as a translator.
In 1984 he became a member of fanclub of Jules Verne
and starts with translations of fanzins. He is a comics collector and by his own words he can read English but not speak.
He belongs to the Czech's most popular translators, among fans and among public readers, mainly because of his work on Discworld
series.
He has also performed unspeakable acts and as a librarian in the production of Pratchett's books. He was awarded with the price of Academy of science fiction, fantasy and horrors in the years 1995, 1996, 1997 and 1999. In 2003 he received price for his lifetime work.
