Taylor took it as a sign Brooke wanted Ridge (her husband at the time) instead of a woman wanting to know if her fiancee had been faithful or not. James went on to date Lauren in 1995 but fell in love with Maggie Forrester in 1996. James and Maggie married but James was later blackmailed into an affair with Shelia Carter in early 1997. Maggie and James divorced in 1997, and Shelia became pregnant with her and James child, Mary in 1997. James and Maggie reunite and Shelia pretends to let Maggie and James raise the child. Shelia purposely double crosses them and Shelia is poked with a fire poker by Maggie. Shelia blackmailed James into marriage in 1997, and James and Shelia raise their child. Shelia again goes crazy and James divorces Shelia taking away their child. Shelia goes as far as trying to kill Stephiane and Amber and even kidnaps Mary. James searched for them and finally leaves town in 1999.
James returns in 2007 helping Taylor but leaves again in 2008. James returns in 2009 resuming is former position while helping Taylor get treatment for her son, while also helping Jackie. James also befriends Donna Logan as well giving treatment to Katie Logan, a former friend. James leaves town in 2010, but returns in 2011 helping Brooke come to terms with sleeping with her stepson and cheating on Ridge. James stays in L.A for a couple months before leaving town again, this time for good in the Fall of 2011.
