2001 Raced Junior TKM class with SRS racing at club level. Finished in the top 10 consistently.
2002 Raced Senior TKM with SRS racing. Finished 5th in the club championship.
2003 Raced Senior TKM. Contested in the National Championship S1. Top 10 finishes in 4 out of the six rounds in the national series. Finished the championship in 14th.
2004 Karting. Raced Senior TKM with Litchfield Motorsport in the National S1 Championship. One national win and eight club wins. Finished the season in second place.
2005 Raced BRDC Championship with Zetec Formula Ford Van Diemen. One win, two poles, two fastest laps, one second and one third out of the six races. Competed in the non championship race and finished second. Raced Formula Ford Zeus class.
2006 Raced Formula Ford Duratec National Championship with Fluid motorsport. Finished 5th in the championship. Nominated for the McLaren Autosport Awards.
2007 Raced Formula Ford Duratec National Championship with Kevin Mills Racing.
15 podiums - 1 win, 9 seconds, 5 thirds, 4 fourths and 3 sixths. Finished 2nd overall in the championship. Nominated for the McLaren Autosport Awards final 15. 2nd in the Walter Hayes trophy, awarded rising stars status. Van Diemens test and development driver for 2007. Tested F3 National Class with Fluid Motorsport. Tested a Spanish F3 car at Silverstone with Team West-Tec.
2008 Seat Leon 2008 Euro cup with Sun Red. Finished the championship in joint 4th.
2009 BTCC half season with Works Chevrolet RML Team. 1 win on track.
2010 BTCC with Triple Eight Racing - Podium finisher and top three qualifier.
18th September 2011 James won his first race with 888 Vauxhall.
2011 Took part in the Dubai 24 hour race managing to put the car on pole in the qualifying session. Finishing his first full season in the BTCC as Independent Champion, the only driver to finish every race, and resulting 5th in the overall standings. He also took his first win in British GT4 with Lotus, and took the win for the Walter Hayes Trophy.
