The band was formed in 1981 in Belgrade

 hits "Spiritus", "Piromanija", "Dama sa severa", "Pozovi me". On the compilation album Ventilator Vol. 3, released in 1985, Popović appeared as the vocalist in Rex Ilusivii song "Arabia". In 1985 Popović also took part in YU Rock Misija

. With their second album Bomba u grudima (Bomb in the Chest), recorded with the new drummer Miroslav Karlović, produced by Habić and released in 1986, Jakarta moved towards pop rock

 sound. The album was not well accepted by the critics and Jakarta disbanded in 1986.

Post breakup

Petrović started performing with the band Jazzy, and later started a solo career. Popović moved to Italy
