Ivanhoe Primary School was founded in 1853 as Ivanhoe School on the site of the corner of Waterdale and Upper Heidelberg roads in Ivanhoe, Victoria
, Australia. It is unclear as to the exact date that children first attended school at Ivanhoe. It is likely that the first teacher was a man by the name of William Booth Wood, who was officially appointed in August 1853. The school committee first recorded minutes and are dated 13 April 1853. They record a meeting of gentlemen to discuss the establishment of a school in the area.
In late October 1881, (28 years on) the school moved down the road little to a site now occupied by Australia Post
. The building was erected and maintained by the education Department on a site of 2 acres they had purchased in 1877 for 200 pounds.
Then in 1923, large red brick building was established at its present site at the corner of Waterdale Road and Ailsa Grove.
This school has a large range of facilities, and is close to the central commercial hub of the Ivanhoe area.

population of 506 students, from a total of 21 grades.
Also in 2010, as a result of the Rudd
Governments B.E.R. program, construction of a large school hall commenced. It was completed in December 2010, and is one of the most significant building improvements in many years to the school.
