. Itobi's population in 2004 was 7,816 and its area is 139.98 km². Its elevation is 658m. The name Itobi derives from the Tupian language. It means: "Água corrente verde", like "Rio Verde" (or Green River). Itobi is denominated, by people, as "The Princess of the Green River"; in Portuguese, "Princesa do Rio Verde". One of the most importants judges of São Paulo State was born in Itobi: Antonio Luiz Pires Neto, who is a 'desembargador' of the 'Tribunal de Justiça de São Paulo' (that is the name of the Supreme Court of São Paulo State and 'desembargador' is the name, in Brazil, for the judge of that Court).
