Issam al-Zaim (1940 – December 14, 2007) was a Syria

and former government Cabinet
minister
. He served separately as both Syria's Minister of Industry and Minister of State Planning.
Al-Zaim was a researcher at the French National Centre for Scientific Research and was appointed as Minister of Industry
in the Syrian Cabinet in 2000. However, he and the rest of the Cabinet lost their positions when the government resigned in 2003. Additionally, al-Zaim also held the post of minister of state for planning.
Al-Zaim and his wife's asset
s were seized by Syrian authorities in 2003 as part of a probe into the alleged misuse of public funds by the couple. He and his wife were acquitted of all charges a few months later.
Issam al-Zaim died of a heart attack at the age of 67 and was buried in Aleppo
. He was survived by his wife and son.
