History

The school was set up in 1961 along the same lines as the Indian Public School (IPS) system. It is one of the very first schools established in Rourkela

 and the very first to have English as the medium of instruction. Its official name is Ispat English Medium School, Sector-20 though it is also known as Ispat E.M. School. Admission to it has never been open to the general public, though it is open to children of parents working for SAIL, CISF, CRPF and other Central Government undertakings and REC.

The school is a normal day-time education facility - there are no boarding students. The school is run by the Education department of the Steel Authority of India Limited

The school is set up according to a house system. There are four houses named after famous Indian personalities:
