In Late April 2010 a failed attempt was made to tarnish the reputation of Yashin, when, upon having been approached by Ekaterina Gerasimova, who unbeknownst to Yashin was a prostitute in the pay of unknown sources, he agreed to return with her to her apartment which had already been completely fitted out with high-end, visual and audio recording equipment. Whilst conversing with Gerasimova - known by her fellow prostitutes as "Mu-Mu" - Ilya Yashin was offered illegal drugs. Realising what was taking place, Yashin refused her offer and promptly left the building. Shortly thereafter, several video recordings were released to the internet by unknown sources displaying upwards of a dozen well-known dissenters of the current Russian political administration engaging in promiscuous, and in some instances illegal activity with the same prostitute in what is viewed by many as a return to the honeytrap tactics

On 31 December 2010 Yashin was arrested for demonstrating in Moscow at another rally of Strategy-31. He was taken to a police station and detained for five days. He claims evidence was then fabricated against him by the police.
