, which included co-directing the famous horse segment that launched the Opening Ceremony of the Sydney Games. He is one of the world’s leading major events director and was responsible for three of the largest events in Australian history: Sydney’s Millennium Celebrations, and the Harbour Spectacular of the Closing Ceremony of the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games. Jones also directed Sydney’s New Year’s Eve and Centenary of Federation celebrations. Also with David Atkikns, Jones co-wrote and co-directed the hugely successful 2002 stage musical The Man from Snowy River: Arena Spectacular
. In 2002, Ignatius staged the Independence Ceremonies of the Democratic Republic of East Timor for the United Nations. Corporate events include the Jeddah Economic Forum in Saudi Arabia, which he produced in 2005. Ignatius also worked closely with David Atkins as artistic director for the ceremonies of the Doha 2006 Asian Games.
He was born Juan Ignacio Trapaga Esteban of a Basque-Chinese father and a Catalan-American mother in the Philippines in 1957. He became a naturalised Australian in 1971, but maintains a dual Spanish-Australian citizenship.
He attended high school at St Ignatius' College, Riverview
