. He was Vice President, as well as Secretary of Foreign Affairs in 1871 - 1872. He was reelected for this work four times: 1880-1883, 1885–1890, 1890–1902, 1902-1910. In 1909, he was the President of Mexican Academy of the Language. He wrote several books; among them:
