. After a period working as a high school teacher, Hélia Correia undertook postgraduate studies in Classical Theatre. Her literary career started in earnest in the 1980s and she quickly achieved great commercial success and critical renown. She can be considered a part of what we might call the postmodern cohort of Portuguese writers, postmodernism as a literary trend only really reaching the country in the 1980s.
