, and supports a rural agricultural economy. It has an elementary school and a junior high school, but older students are bussed to the nearby community of Beaverlodge. Hythe also has a newly renovated hockey arena, a covered outdoor swimming pool, and a motor speedway.

  • 1915:The Happy Valley School opened in the settlement.
  • 1928:Railway arrived in the area.
  • 1929:Hythe was incorporated as a village.
  • 1947:The first hospital was built.
  • 1950:The first covered ice rink in the Peace Country was built and became home to the Hythe Mustangs Hockey Team for many years.
  • 1967: The South Peace Centennial Museum which opened, located 12 km south of Hythe has the only known operating 30 HP Waterloo Steam Traction Engine.
