Causeway Bay

Causeway Bay, formerly known as East Point, is an area based on the northern shore of Hong Kong Island, located across Wan Chai District and Eastern District. A former fishing village, Causeway Bay grew through several stages of land reclamation. Jardines bought the land from the British colonial government in the early 19th century.

It is one of Hong Kong's most popular and vibrant shotting destinations, with many shops staying opening beyond midnight. It is a preferred shopping district for the local young and trendy, movie stars, and "tai-tais". Causeway Bay also has a lot of restaurants, bars and entertainment buildings. Among the well known sites in the northern half of Causeway Bay are Japanese department store Sogo, Victoria Park, and the Hong Kong Yacht Club. The Noodday Gun is fired daily near the Causeway Bay Typhoon Shelter. The southern half of Causeway Bay takes on a more relaxed character, but still boasts some of Hong Kong's best known shopping destinations. Within the area also lies the Hong Kong Stadium, home of the world renowned Hong Kong Rugby Sevens.
