Huntington Station was also the birthplace of poet Walt Whitman
. His home remains there as a museum. Across from the museum on Rt 110

There were 9,731 households out of which 36.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 54.4% were married couples
living together, 14.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.1% were non-families. 19.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.06 and the average family size was 3.42.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 25.8% under the age of 18, 8.7% from 18 to 24, 34.6% from 25 to 44, 20.4% from 45 to 64, and 10.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 35 years. For every 100 females there were 100.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.8 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $61,760, and the median income for a family was $67,115 (these figures had risen to $73,875 and $82,698 respectively as of a 2007 estimate). Males had a median income of $43,349 versus $32,935 for females. The per capita income
