According to Trent Reznor in a 2011 interview on Times Talk, the band are working on an EP of new material. Commenting on the sound of the EP, he called it "more beat oriented", "different from the first EP". He stated that this would be released sometime in 2011, possibly summer.

On the second of November, 2011, it was released via the Nine Inch Nails website that How to Destroy Angels would be coming out with a full-length album.

On the 30th of November, 2011, the band's official twitter announced that they would be releasing a cover of the Bryan Ferry
