Hourglass is an American
Progressive
Power Metal
band. They are signed onto Nightmare Records.
Hourglass released their first album, This Lonely Time and Place, in 2000. It was independently released. John Shumway left the band afterwards and was replaced by Chad Neth. Zack Starr left and was replaced by John Dunston. Eric Robertson left as well, and was replaced by Jerry Stenquist.
The second album, The Journey Into, was released in 2002 on Fast Forward Records. Following the release, Chad Neth, Jerry Stenquist, and Jonathan Berrett all left the band. They were replaced by Cody Walker, Eric Robertson, and Clark Woolstenhulme, respectively.
Hourglass's third album, Subconscious, was released in 2004, again on Fast Forward Records. Then, Cody Walker, Clark Woolstenhulme, and Eric Robertson left the band, and were replaced by Michael Turner, Eric Blood, and Jerry Stenquist, respectively.
Hourglass's fourth album, Oblivious to the Obvious, a double album, was released on February 19, 2009. It was self-released. They played a release show two days later. In November 2009, Oblivious to the Obvious was voted best progressive metal album of 2009 http://hourglassprogressiverock.blogspot.com/2010/01/we-won-album-of-year.html on the PerfectProg.com site.
On January 17, 2011, Hourglass stated on their home page that they had a new bassist, Brian Hancock. They also mentioned that they had written 5 songs for another album, sans vocal melodies, and that their plan was to continue writing until they felt they had an album's worth of material http://www.hourglassband.com/news/update011711.html.

History
Hourglass was formed by Brick Williams (guitars) and John Shumway (lead vocals and acoustic guitar). The quickly recruited Eric Robertson to play keyboards, Zack Starr to play drums, and Jonny Berrett to play bass.
