Holmatro, an Hydraulic equipment manufacturer with its roots in the Netherlands
Netherlands
The Netherlands is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, located mainly in North-West Europe and with several islands in the Caribbean. Mainland Netherlands borders the North Sea to the north and west, Belgium to the south, and Germany to the east, and shares maritime borders...

. Formed in 1967, it was set up to supply hydraulic lifting and rescue tools to the industrial and fire and Rescue market. The Holmatro line of products includes high pressure hydraulic lifting, cutting, and spreading equipment for the Fire and Rescue Community. Holmatro also produces hydraulic cylinders and wedges for the industrial community, and Hydraulic items for the marine industry.

Rescue Tools

Holmatro has been producing Rescue tools since 1957. The tools that they have produced have been accepted into hundreds of brigades and rescue organisations across the world.

1957: Holmatro was the first to produce a rescue tool that worked at a pressure greater than 500 bar, higher than rival company could produce at the time. Their rescue tool also was a more compact design and weighed less.

1977: Holmatro was the first manufacturer to fit a "dead man's handle" (a trigger that stops the tool if the hand is removed) to all of its products to make its tools safer.

1983: Holmatro was the first manufacturer to produce a lightweight spreader which weighed less than 19 kg.

1984: Holmatro was the first manufacturer to produce a twin plunger ram which created a larger spread without the risk on bending.

1985: Holmatro produced its first lightweight combi-tool which was easier to use and handle.

1986: Holmatro produce its first dedicated cutter which weighed less that 13 kg with a blade opening of 125 mm.

1990: Holmatro produced a twin plunger ram to have a spreading force of 15 tons.

1993: Holmatro produces the "Holmatro Personal Power Unit" which has a hydraulic pump with easy operation which could be used by one worker with one tool.

1994: Holmatro produced a low noise remake of the "personal power unit".

1998: Holmatro produces a Category H cutter to deal with the advances in modern vehicle design.

1999: Holmatro Produces its first automatic locking hydraulic coupler for safe operation.

1999: Holmatro introduces its Powershore equipment which can be used for both shoring structures and lifting at the same time.

2000: Holmatro produces its low weight "Personal Power" pump which weighs 15.5 kg

2002: Holmatro Introduces its New Car Technology (NCT) blades which can handle hard metals such as boron used in new cars.

2002: Holmatro Introduces its first battery operated combi-tool which weighs less than 15 kg with easy operation.

2003: Holmatro Introduces its first DUO petrol pump which weighs less than 25 kg.

Innovations

Holmatro has changed and improved its products over the years, adding and growing its range of Hydraulic rescue tools, but there have been innovations over the years that have changed the way the company has progressed.

In 2005 Holmatro launch its "CORE" range of high pressure hydraulic hoses used to connect the tool to the pump. Before Holmatro used 2 hoses, a pressure and return, to transfer fluid to the tool, but with the launch of the CORE hoses, the way that the fluid is transferred has become a lot safer. This is because the high pressure hose which carries around 10,500 psi (720 bar) is encased in the low pressure return hose which only has a pressure of 363 psi (25 bar). This means that if there was ever a hole in the hose, the user would not be exposed to dangerously high pressure which could cause serious injury if injected into the skin.
