Hoboken FC was also experiencing a decline in membership and the fortunes on the soccer field were sagging. The 2002-2003 season saw Hoboken FC play in the Fourth Division (Metro Two) for the first time in the club's history. However, unlike many of the other area clubs, the membership decided to work to rebuild the club into a premier soccer organization.
In 2005, Hoboken FC won promotion to the Third Division. The club began playing under the name “Hoboken FC” again and started playing on a new field-turf pitch at Overpeck County Park, one of the best facilities in the league.
