 of Gujarat. It is the administrative headquarter of the district. The name literally means the "Town of Courage". The town is situated on the bank of the river Hathmati.
Himatnagar was named after the King Himmat Singh. There are two palaces in the town of the King Himmat Singh. Motipura, Mehtapura, Mahavirnagar, Pologround are major areas, Navratri, Diwali, Ramzan and Uttrayan are the biggest festivals of the town. It is also believed that the "Agnihotri Shala" was established near Himatnagar during the time of Mahabharata. Himatnagar is also famous for Asia's best Horse Training Centre, as well as it is a Historical City of North Gujarat.
Himatnagar has a small Railway Station (Meter gage line) and a GSRTC Bus Depot.

History

Himatnagar was founded in 1426 by Sultan Ahmed-I (1411–1443).The town was named Ahmednagar after the founder. In 1848 this town was given back to the king of the Idar

 State and in 1912 the town was named Ahmdnagar to Himatnagar by Colonel Maharajadhiraja Maharaja Sri Himmat Singh Sahib Bahadur(2 September 1899-24 November 1960).

Also in Himatnagar is Darul Ulum Hasaniya located Near Hazarat Hasan Shaheed Dargah. There is a large number of Sunni Muslim "Alim", "Hafiz", "Kari" and other Islamic courses available.

Culture

Himatnagar town is, in size and character, between a city and a village. The town is known for its unique tasting Dal-Bati and Pani-Puri.

The town contains several movie theaters and shopping complexes as well as an amusement park.

Himatnagar is also home to many Hindu sects and temples including Sai Temple, Jalaram Temple, Panchdev Temple, Mahakali Temple, Shri PranNathji Temple, Harshhidhmata Temple, Swaminaryan Temple, Ganpathi Temple, Gayatri Temple.

Economy

Himatnagar is a central site for the ceramic industry of India, and is home to several manufacturing units such as Asian Tiles, Regent Tiles and Graneto. The town has also been home to major companies in the scale industries since 1960.

The agglomeration of medical professionals and services close to the central bus station is famous as “Arogya Nagar” which is one of the major medical facilities of Himatnagar. It is particularly famous for its focus in new ayurvedic medicine.

On the outskirts of Himatnagar lies the co-operative diary factory Sabar Dairy which produces Pasteurized Milk,srikhand, yogurt, paneer, butter, buttermilk along with other dairy based products for National Dairy Development Board Amul
