HGH was founded by Lenedra J. Carroll and Jewel Kilcher

 in 1998. Their goal was to build a large humanitarian platform for the world. The organization is committed to being self-sustaining and to actions that serve humanist goals.

The ClearWater Project

The organisation's most visible and successful effort has been The ClearWater Project led by Shane Kilcher. The project was launched by HGH in 1999. It is focused on access to clean water in developing countries through education which facilitates community
