In the city the population was spread out with 25.4% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 27.6% from 25 to 44, 25.0% from 45 to 64, and 15.7% who were 65 years of age or older. History
The first settlers arrived in the area in the 1840s. A discernible town began to develop in the early 1880s after a railroad was constructed and several phosphate mines were established. In 1888 the local post office changed its name from Orion to High Springs and the town was officially incorporated in 1892.External links
