This discovery was surprising since the black hole was about 1/4 the size of the black hole at the center of the Milky Way Galaxy, despite the fact that the galaxy is but 1/1000 the size of the milky way. This discovery suggests that the black holes found at the center of most large galaxies may have formed before the galaxies themselves.
