The station at the Berlin Ringbahn was opened under the name "Schmargendorf
" on December 15, 1883. In 1980 S-Bahn service discontinued and later a nightclub
moved into the former entrance hall. On December 17, 1993 the S-Bahn station was reopened, now directly connected to the adjacent U-Bahn station and therefore renamed Heidelberger Platz.
The U-Bahn station opened on October 12, 1913 (arch.W.Leitgebel). With its high groin vault
it is one of the most brighly decorated of the Berlin network. The eponymous square was named after the city of Heidelberg
