The station was built in 1902 in Spanish Colonial Revival style, designed by Thomas Rogers Kimball
for the Burlington Railroad

in 1978. Part of the building is leased to commercial tenants.
Of the five Nebraska stations served by Amtrak, Hastings was the third busiest in FY2010, boarding or detraining an average of approximately 13 passengers daily.
