Harithah bint Al-Muammil, the sister of Umm Ubays
who was known as Zunairah 'Al-Romiyah, was a slave girl of Umar ibn al-Khattab. Lubaynah
was her fellow slave.
Abu Jahl used to beat Zunairah severely; so did Umar before he embraced Islam. Before Umar ibn al-Khattab's conversion his harsh treatment of his convert slaves was well known.
One day Abu Jahl came to visit Umar. He took it upon himself to beat Zunairah. He beat her to such an extent that she lost her eyesight.
