Etemad's publications have focused heavily on the internationalization of small and medium size enterprises (SMEs) and include over 100 articles and 4 book volumes. He is a founder and organizer of the McGill International Entrepreneurship Conference as well as the editor-in-chief of the Journal of International Entrepreneurship, and is regarded in academic circles as a founding father of the field of International Entrepreneurship.
