Tam was the winner of the Miss Hong Kong Pageant 1994. She went on to represent Hong Kong at the Miss Chinese International 1995 pageant where she placed in the top 5, resulting in a berth at Miss Universe 1995
where she placed 45th. She had a singing career with BMG (Hongkong) in 1997 and is now an actress with TVB

. She hosts Leisure and Pleasure and co-hosts Destiny and Beyond for the network.
Halina married her boyfriend Eric Choi in September, 2007.
