History

The Hackensack Fire Department was established April 1, 1871. The first fire company was Bergen Hook & Ladder Co. 1. In 1911 a full time fire department was created.

The Hackensack Ford fire was a tragic fire that occurred in July 1,1988 and killed five Hackensack firefighters. The deaths were due to the collapse of the bowstring truss
