Basketball was the only sport in which Great Britain were not guaranteed entry as hosts in 2012. In early 2011, FIBA granted the men's and women's teams automatic qualification. Until 2006, England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland competed as separate teams.

Britain qualified the maxium of one boat in all four classes, at the 2011 World Championships.

Sprint

The canoe sprint allocation for the host nation is one place in the Men's K1 1000 m, Men's C1 1000 m and Women's K1 500 m. Team GB was expected to earn a healthy number of British quota places in competition at the Worlds and an as-yet-unconfirmed European qualifying event to be held in May 2012.

Weightlifting

Wrestling
