The Telecom Factory Road, leading to Deonar Village, is home to contemporary modern housing complexes such as Neelkanth Gardens,Hari-Kripa C.H.S Ltd., Orchid CHS Ltd., Trimurti C.H. S. Ltd., Raheja Acropolis, Dutt Guru CHS Ltd., Sai Simran CHS Ltd. and Jeevan Mahal (built by "Jeevan Tukaram Patil" in 1969). The International Institute of Population Sciences, TISS, and Shah & Anchor Polytechnics are also located in the vicinity. The lush green belt also has many corporate houses such as Spanco BPO, Dukes

Population of Govandi is a mixed one with majority of Muslims. Among Muslims there are various sects like Shia, Sunni,Wahabi, Deobandi etc. Govandi is considered to be the second most in regards to Shia-Muslim population. The top position is being enjoyed by areas like Dongri, Palagali etc. of southern Mumbai. Owing to their large number of population they organise several juloos during Moharram. Theses julooses are a way to pay homage to Lady of paradise and daughter of the Islamic prophet Mohammad Janabe Fatema Zehra for assassination of her elder son Hazrat Imam-e-Hussain on 10th of Moharram by a tyrant called Yazid ibne Mowiyah in the Battle field of Karbala.
