At one time the company considered merging with Apollo Hotels & Resorts. In 2009 Golden Tulip went into voluntary receivership. In July 2009 Starwood Capital Group Global LP announced that it was buying 240 of the 260 hotels operated by the Golden Tulip Hospitality Group.
