History
Golden City was established in 1866 as a stop on the Butterfield Stagecoach Line. It takes its name from a nearby area known as Golden Grove. Golden Grove was so named because the early settlers found old diggings in the area that they attributed to Spanish Conquistadors mining for gold. In reality the diggings were done by Indians mining an outcropping of exceptionally fine flint.Demographics
