 on their crossing of the Blue Mountains in 1813, the waterhole was later used to cool the engines of the early trains. The ruins of the stationmaster's house can be seen in the bushland to the north of the lagoon.

In 2006, the Blue Mountains City Council commenced a lagoon restoration project, removing weed infestations.
