's PublicMind Poll released the results of its opinion research, showing Urquhart trailing the Democrat, John Carney, 51%-36%; Carney was well ahead in New Castle County (56-32) but just running even with Urquhart (43-43) in the downstate counties of Kent and Sussex. Days before the election, a second Fairleigh Dickinson poll showed a similar gap of 17 percentage points, 53% to 36% among likely voters, but noted that "Urquhart... does well among those who disapprove of the president (70%-19%), those who see the economy on the “wrong track” (61%-28%), pro-life voters (55%-34%) and those who like the Tea Party movement (76%-14%)."

Personal life
