History of Ghuman/Ghumman

Ghumman rajputs are descended from Raja Sanpal Janjua, was the younger son of Raja Jodh Janjua, the conqueror of Makhiala. Raja Jodh Janjua was the son of Raja Mal Khan Janjua, the ruler of Malot Fort in Chakwal, originally hailing from Raja Dalip of Delhi.

Raja Sanpal Janjua married many wives and had many sons, who founded various sub tribes and clans. Raja Sanpal's youngest son, Raja Ghumman Janjua, took service in Jammu during the rule of Sultan Firuz Shah of Delhi.

The highly warlike and fierce repute of the Royal Ghumman Janjua Warlords earned them an undisputed position in the Punajb as the most powerful tribe in the region. Today they occupy major positions within the Punjab government and are a still a powerful tribe of respected position. Ghumman rajputs stand high social rank in society. "The Ghumman, who enjoy the proud title of Raja, are Rájputs, and trace their descent to Rájá Sanpal Janjua...They regard themselves as belonging to the Janjuah tribe." Generally in Punjab they are Janjua Rajptus but mostly consider themselves as Ghumman Jats.
