Gerald Gazdar

Gerald James Michael Gazdar (born 24 February 1950) is a linguist and computer scientist.
He was educated at Bradfield College
and subsequently graduated from the University of East Anglia
with a BA in 1970, and from the University of Reading
where he completed his master's degree in 1972 and his PhD in 1976. He became a lecturer at the University of Sussex
in 1975, and became Professor of Computational Linguistics
there in 1985. He retired in 2002.
Along with his colleagues Ewan Klein, Geoffrey Pullum
and Ivan Sag
, Gazdar pioneered Generalized Phrase Structure Grammar.
