, where State Route 51 departs and continues to the east. Just to the west of Hartwell, the route becomes cosigned with State Route 77, and the two routes travel east into downtown Hartwell. In Hartwell, State Route 51 departs and travels north, crossing backwaters of Lake Hartwell before ending at a boat ramp on the lake.

State Route 51 is a somewhat minor route in the region, though the route does see a significant amount of traffic near Homer and Hartwell, including the cosigned portion with State Route 77, which sees an Average Annual Daily Traffic of over 10,000 vehicles.
