(1982) before obtaining a PhD, Summa Cum Laude, in Medical Information Science
at the University of Ghent in 1994.

He is president of RAMIT (Research in Medical Informatics and Telematics), and has been involved in many Research and Development projects, as well as in standardization activities. He has founded a number of spin-off companies, such as MediBridge, Custodix and TeleTendo, and also chairs a number of Belgian Government Committees and Scientific and Professional Organizations, such as the Health Telematics Committee
of the Belgian Ministry of Health and Social Affairs. He was the founding chairman of CEN/TC251
