The Hill of Uisneach was in ancient times considered to be the centre of Ireland. Up to recently a fire was lit every May Day and a Mass was celebrated on the hill. The Hill of Uisneach is situated on the road from Mullingar
to Athlone, about 17.7 kilometres west of Mullingar two kilometres from the village of Loughanavally.
