, the local hero of Makati City during the revolutionary period in the Philippine History, has been contributing its share in the city government of Makati’s vision for education through the attainment of the school’s goals reflected in its own mission statements. However, the path to glory is a journey with major turning points as the school accepts challenges posed before it and eventually became part of its existence.

Gen. Pio Del Pilar National High School is like an evolving organism as it undergoes different stages of metamorphosis. Likewise, similar to an entity in a corporate world that experiences merging, the school went through several transformations, and consequently its faculty members remain steadfast as they hurdle the challenges of the universal phenomenon called change. Its faculty has provided opportunities to nurture a tradition of excellence among its students as reflected in its records of achievements.

The genesis of Gen. Pio Del Pilar National High School can be traced back in the existence of the former Makati Polytechnic Community College-Technical High School; the school later became Makati College on November 16, 1987 by virtue of MMC ordinance #07 series of 1987, which subsequently became Pamantasan ng Makati on 1991, now University of Makati. As the school elevated to university status, it has carved its place in the academic community, especially its Science and Technology High School that has produced outstanding students. Most of the former students are now successful professionals in their chosen field of endeavor. The journey continued as it was integrated with Makati High School in 1999 as one of its annexes in its new abode, the school compound of the former Pio Del Pilar Educational Institution.

Pio Del Pilar Educational Institution (PDPEI), the first private high school in Makati, did pioneering venture, not only in the field of private education but also in high school education in Makati in 1947 by its founder and owner, former Sen. Jovito Salonga. PDPEI’s site was at A. Mabini St., in Barangay Poblacion until it transferred to F. Zobel cor Morong St, also in the same locality in 1971 PDPEI’s existence lasted until 1999 when the School Board of the City Government of Makati purchased its school compound

Subsequently, the former MPCC/MC/PNM-STHS teachers were transferred to the former Pio Del Pilar Educational Institution, which was placed under the supervision of the Dep. Ed -Division of Makati and was called Makati High School-Pio del Pilar Annex with Ms. Ma. Corazon L. Jose as its officer-in-charge and later as Principal on June 2001. MHS-PDP annex’ existence became the transition period toward its eventual independence by virtue of City ordinance no 99-078 with the name GEN. PIO DEL PILAR NATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL on June 28, 2002. Now the school has turned a new leaf with Mr. Samuel C.Bulan as its new principal who started on October 2, 2006. The journey of the school continues with his dynamic leadership who inspires the students and the teachers with strings of success on academic, co-curricular and extra curricular activities.
