GECAD Software was established in 1992 by Radu Georgescu as a Computer Aided Design (CAD) software development
company. Over time, GECAD’s focus shifted from CAD software to security
-related software, mainly antivirus software
. Its most prominent product, Reliable Antivirus, or RAV, was first developed in 1994. In 2003, after amassing over 10 million users in 60 countries worldwide, the technology was acquired by Microsoft
. In 2004, GECAD reshaped its entire business to be made up of several different companies.

GECAD has been investing in technology, e-commerce and internet start-up companies since 1992. Key investment criteria include a credible technology roadmap to support products that are innovative and have the potential for a global roll-out. GECAD builds strong strategic and working relationships with the management teams running the portfolio companies and supports them to achieve their objectives. GECAD leverages its international network of technology resources to transfer best practices and market knowledge.
GECAD has successfully exited from two of its major investments: RAV Antivirus was acquired by Microsoft in 2003 and GECAD ePayment International by Allegro/Naspers in 2010.Strategic minority investors were also brought into Axigen and Avangate.
Current investment portfolio comprises Avangate, Phoenix, Axigen, GECAD NET, ePayment and ROL Online Network.
Phoenix, a spinoff from Axigen, is a cloud storage solution for migrating data and applications stored on a Public Cloud (Amazon S3) to the Private Cloud.

Established in 2001, GECAD Technologies SA, is the vendor of Axigen, an integrated email, calendaring and collaboration platform.
ePayment is provider of integrated eCommerce solution
, leader on Romanian market, of online payment systems. In 2010, the company was acquired by Allegro Group, part of the international media company Naspers. GECAD continues to hold a minority stake of 17% in the company.
