. Uttar Pradesh Technical University was established on 8 May 2000 to provide technical education. UPTU was established under University Act according to which technical education includes education in fields of Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Town Planning, Pharmacy, Applied Arts and Crafts. After the split, two new universities were formed: Gautam Buddh Technical University and Mahamaya Technical University

Serving area

After the split, the new universities were given definite regions: The university affiliates the technical and management colleges of the Azamgarh, Allahabad, Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Jhansi, Devi Paatan, Faizabad, Bareily, Lucknow, Varanasi, Chitrakoot Dham, Basti and Vindhyachal divisions from the academic year 2010-11 onwards. This includes all the government engineering colleges of the state.
