    Encyclopedia

The Fährhofer Stutenpreis is a Group 3
flat
horse race
in Germany
which is open to three-year-old thoroughbred
fillies
. It is run at Horner Rennbahn
, Hamburg
, over a distance of 2,200 metres (about 1 mile and 3 furlongs), and it is scheduled to take place each year in late June or early July.
The original version of the race, the Neusser Stutenpreis, was first run at Neuss
in 1952. After some early variations, its distance was set at 2,100 metres in 1955. It was given Group 3 status in 1976, and this was maintained until 1994. The Neusser Stutenpreis continued ungraded until 1997, but it was effectively replaced in 1995 by a new Group 3 event at Hamburg, the 2,200-metre Deutscher Herold-Preis (a name later adopted by the Hamburger Meile
).
Since 2002 the race has been run under several different titles, most recently the Grosser Preis der Jungheinrich Gabelstapler. It used to be open to fillies and mares aged three or older, but it was restricted to three-year-olds only in 2008.
